2nd SoNA: Minority Members Literally Seal Their Lips

Scores of members of the Minority in Parliament, have literally sealed their lips as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his second State of the Nation (SoNA) Address in parliament since he assumed office a little over a year ago.

Minutes before the President stepped onto the rostrum in Parliament House to deliver his second SoNA, some members of the Minority were seen with their lips sealed with a blister plaster.

This is marked departure from the days when the Minority display placards in the House.

Some believe such acts by MPs cast a slur on the image of parliament.

In his first SONA delivered 48 days after his swearing-in, President Akufo-Addo had made it clear that he had no time to waste in lifting the state from the economic abyss.

“I am, indeed, in a hurry, I am in a great hurry. The times in which we live demand that we, all, be in a hurry to deal with the problems we face,” he had told the House.

A year later, specific deliverables are expected from the President to demonstrate how he has put his words into action.

The economy, governance, national culture and attitudes formed the central focus of the 2017 SONA.
