I Didn't Work Against Akufo-Addo – Sammy Crabbe

Suspended 2nd Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has denied working against the then presidential candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as it has been alleged by some members of the party.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP suspended Mr Crabbe indefinitely alongside then-General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and then-Chairman Paul Afoko, for, among other things, making utterances that were injurious to the chances of Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 election.

But speaking on Class FM Wednesday, 21 February 2018, Mr Crabbe said he had nothing to gain by frustrating Nana Akufo-Addo’s chances of becoming president.

He said: “Why will I hate Nana Akufo-Addo? My wife’s cousin is Nana Akufo-Addo’s wife so why will I hate Nana Akufo-Addo. Who will it benefit? My daughter goes to their house, sits on Nana Akufo-Addo’s laps, so, what are they talking about? When somebody is fighting against something you have to know the person. What I’m fighting against has nothing to do with personalities. It is what I believe in. …There is a cabal, there are people who believe they are above everybody and I think it’s very unfortunate.”

He further denied frustrating the party financially.

“First of all, I developed a system to be able to move in money, millions on a monthly basis, generate the kind of cash flows that you can even use to borrow money and do the things you want to do tomorrow too. So why would I want to frustrate the man [Akufo-Addo] becoming president? How is that going to profit me? It doesn’t make sense. I may have my frustrations with certain things and I’ll point it out. In meetings I never held back, I’ll scream, I’ll do what I want to do, I’ll make my point but how? Why will anybody want to frustrate [Akufo-Addo]? Did anybody hear Afoko or Sammy Crabbe standing somewhere, saying, don’t vote for Nana Akufo-Addo”? He quizzed.

Despite his suspension, Mr Crabbe has entered the chairmanship race of the NPP and belives he can unseat the Acting Chairman Mr Freddy Blay.
