Many of our celebrities have learnt to develop thick skin against negative labels or stories in the media but Kumawood actress, Clara Benson, who is popularly known as Maame Serwaa, still has some ways to go before she gets there.
According to the young actress, she gets very emotional about some of the reports about her. In a recent interview with Showbiz, the young lady said of all the bad labels she has been given, the one that gets to her most is disrespectful.
“I have heard stories that I am pregnant and that I am dating my colleague, Bill Asamoah, but I am not really bothered about those but it gets to me when I am told I am disrespectful,” she said.
Maame Serwaa said she wonders why she has been given that tag because she shows respect especially to the elderly and to everyone in general.
For her, this negative label has led many people to believe she is indeed disrespectful and they regard her in a way she doesn’t like.
Perhaps, the perception can be attributed to the roles Maame Serwaa plays in local movies. Since she started acting, many of the characters she has portrayed have been disrespectful or have been witches.
She asked people not to judge her by the roles she plays in the movies. “I am given roles that make me look disrespectful but I am very humble and my peers or anyone who knows me can testify to that. The perception out there is far from the truth. I want those who believe this to get closer and see for themselves who Maame Serwaa truly is,” she said.
Maame Seerwaa recently signed a five year deal with Silvanus Records and she tells Showbiz she is hopeful the label will deliver on its promises.
