Ashanti NDC elects Yaw Obimpeh as Chairman

Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh has been elected Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He polled 142 votes to beat off the challenge by his three other contestants, Mr Frank Osei Mensah, a former Regional Chairman, who secured 102 votes, Alhaji Mohammed Sani, 20 votes, and Thomas K. Braimah, seven votes, in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC). This was at the party's regional delegates conference held at the Asante-Mampong Video City under the theme "Enhancing current political and social gains to win election 2012." Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, General Secretary, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, a former Minister, and Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, Attorney General and Attorney General and Minister of Justice, were among high profile NDC members who were present. Mr Obimpeh until his election was the party's Regional Youth Organizer, a position he held for more than 10 years. Other Officers picked included Mr Alex Ativor Sawyer, Regional Vice Chairman, Mr Ebenezer Terlabi, Regional Secretary, Mr Raymond Tandoh, Deputy Secretary, and Alhaji Sani Abdulai, the Regional Organizer. The rest were Mr Justice Alpha, Propaganda Secretary, Mr Alex Yaw Opoku, Deputy Propaganda Secretary, Mr Justice Atibaga, Treasurer, and Madam Evelyn Amoah, Deputy Treasurer. Mr Obimpeh told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that under his watch, there would be teamwork and that the party's structures at all levels would be made functional for vigorous membership drive. "I have been in the trenches with our hard working foot soldiers all these years and I am going to work with them to substantially win more votes for the NDC in Election 2012." He said he would inject more vibrancy and dynamism into the party in the region.
