The drunk driver, known only by the surname Zhang, fled the scene of the accident without stopping after colliding with his wife's electric scooter at night in Zibo, which is in East China's Shandong Province.
Emergency services rushed Zhang's wife and son to a nearby hospital, but the boy was declared dead after efforts to revive him failed.
