“Are you not proud you are talking to the future President of Ghana”, was the question Professor Joshua Alabi Joshua Alabi, an aspirant for flagbearership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) used to re-state his confidence in himself being the next President of Ghana come what may.

He granted an interview to GhanaWeb’s Kwabena Kyenkyenhene Boateng on the Time With KKB program followed keenly by MYNEWSGH.com.

The retired academician, reclining in his seat stared soberly at his Ghanaweb interviewer and said: “I am winning… I am winning. I’m going to be the flagbearer of NDC and the next President of this country”. Prof Alabi said, sitting back very coolly in his chair, with an air of certainty.

Prof Joshua Alabi took another look at his interviewer, perhaps suspecting his interview was yet to be convinced, the Prof asked him: “Do you have anything against that?” Kwabena Kyenkyenhene promptly responded, “Not at all, [Sir]”.

Alabi then asked him pointedly again, with his glasses reclining to his nose and eyebrows raised: “Are you not proud you are talking to the future President of Ghana?” He asked. “Of course I am”, journalist replied, with a burst of laughter while Alabi maintained his serious composure.

Don’t compare me to Mahama

Even though Professor Joshua Alabi admits former President John Dramani Mahama did his best as President, he has said he does not want to be compared with him when it comes to the question of delivery.

“I am not going to compare myself with John Mahama or anything here that is not what I do. You have asked me to talk about myself …so let me talk about myself”, he said in the Ghanaweb interview.

He observed that John Mahama may have done his best, yet lost at the last elections, the NDC as a party needs to collectively go back to the voters to find out if indeed the party delivered as it expected and establish what accounted for its abysmal performance at the polls.

According to him, he remains the best candidate to bring the NDC back to power, and not Mahama. He has promised to make Ghana a Switzerland when elected President in 2020.
