998 Staffers: Akufo-Addo Is Creating "Job For The Boys" - Atik Mohammed

Atik Mohammed has waded into discussions regarding over-staffing at the Presidency, saying it is a “job for the boys”.

Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Atik Mohammed slammed the Akufo-Addo government for having an over-sized staff working under the office of the President.

A list of 998 staff to presented by government to Parliament went viral over the weekend, eliciting controversies.

As members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) argue that the size of the Presidential staff has not had any adverse effect because unlike the previous government whose expenditure shot up to about 3 billion cedis, the incumbent government has, with its 998 workers at the Presidency, reduced it to 1.5 billion.

On the flip side, members on the political divide have also argued the government has woefully failed Ghanaians and is being two-faced over the matter, since they (NPP) strongly censured the previous administration for having a huge number of staff, when the NPP was in opposition.

According to Atik Mohammed, the NPP’s defense is hogwash as 998 staffers means the government will be spending more to pay them than if they had a rather smaller number.

He stated that there will also be duplication of roles, stressing that it appears the President and his government is only creating jobs for the party’s “boys”.

We’re paying more money as compensation compared to what we were paying earlier. That’s why I said earlier that there’s a relation between government size and government cost”, he said.
