The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional election is underway at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

In all, 51 aspirants are vying for various positions including Chairman, Secretary, Women’s, Youth and Regional Organizers. About 6,000 delegates from 29 out of 31 constituencies are to exercise their franchise.

The outspoken Northern Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu who was involved in an accident arrived at the election grounds on a wheelchair.

His mangled vehicle has also been towed to the grounds. Bugri Naabu who is seeking reelection urged the delegates to elect officers capable of retaining the party in power at the 2020 elections.

He called for unity after the elections to consolidate the NPP’s electoral fortunes in the Northern Region. He said if retained, he will ensure that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will lose more of its Parliamentary seats in the region.

The Gambaga/Nalerigu and Yunyoo constituencies elections have been put on hold due to court injunctions.
