Mr. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, Acting Upper West Regional Minister has observed that the worrying trend of chieftaincy litigations are a threat to the peace and security of the region.

He therefore made a passionate appeal to the Upper West Region House of Chiefs to put in place measures to resolve the disputes before they escalate.

Mr Issahaku who made the observation during the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Meeting in Wa warned that security agencies though do not meddle in chieftaincy matters, would however not tolerate any chieftaincy matter that could compromise the peace and security of the region.

The Acting Regional Minister noted that the number of armed robbery cases recorded in the first quarter of the year had reduced due to measures put in place by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) particularly the Ghana Police Service.

“I must commend the police especially members of the operation calm live for the good job they are doing”, he said and urged them to continue with the good works.

Mr Issahaku added that REGSEC also initiated community engagement forums to sensitise the populace on the need to be security conscious and help the police fight crime.

This, according to the Regional Minister led to the processes for the formation of neighbourhood watchdog committees in most of the communities visited by REGSEC.

“The forgoing initiative has contributed to the reduction in armed robbery in the region and I want to commend REGSEC for their effort and sacrifices”, he said.
