Akufo Addo Suggests Hosting National Event Outside The Capital

President Akufo Addo has proposed rotation of venues of national events such as the Independence Day.

Nana Akufo Addo said the tradition of hosting the country’s Independence Day in Accra must change.

Speaking at this year’s May Day celebration held in Kumasi, President Akufo Addo said national event planners must consider the proposal.“Let me commend the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for holding this national event outside Accra; I believe more national events like independence days celebration should follow the TUC’s lead and hold out the country’s capital, who knows? Next year why not Tamale for independence day,” he said.

Thirty Organized Labour Groups gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to participate in the 2018 National May Day Celebration.

Some members of Organised Labour left with no option than to sit on broken and dusty plastic chairs at the deteriorating Baba Sports Stadium in Kumasi to participate in the 2018 May Day celebrations.

Some of the workers who spoke to Citi News called on the National Sports Authority (NSA), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to quickly address the situation to save the facility from total collapse.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also announced the setting up a committee at the May Day celebration that will be in charge of overseeing actualization of the president’s Ghana beyond aid vision

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, will be chairing a committee.

The Committee will draw a charter which outlines the steps the country is to take in making Ghana self-reliant.

“The Charter will then be subjected to scrutiny and debate by Parliament and adopted as a follow up to the Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies. The nation will then know in detail how we intend to move Ghana to a situation Beyond Aid,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
