Presiding Member appeals to media to be circumspect

Mr. Isaac Asirifi-Kudom, the Presiding Member of Nkoranza South District Assembly, has appealed to media practitioners to be circumspect in their reportage to avoid creating problems that could affect the peace and development of the country. He told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the media had played significant roles in the democratic process and urged journalists to avoid sensational stories. "It is unfortunate some reporters carry sensational stories to the general public, which at times create confusion among the people whilst others are influenced by some people to write against personalities they have problems with", Mr. Asirifi-Kudom said. He said discussions on radio often degenerated into the uttering of unpleasant things about personalities like the President and this was a mark of disrespect for authority. "We are practicing democracy and we should not go beyond that and do what will be contrary to the peaceful democratic process Ghana is pursuing," he said. Mr. Asirifi-Kudom advised the youth to be law abiding and to respect persons in authority so they would become responsible and disciplined leaders in future. He asked politicians to lead exemplary lives for their followers to emulate and to learn that political opponents are not enemies.
