Holland Rappers Angry With Sarkodie Over "Borga" Track

When Ghanas fastest rapper, Sarkodie released his song Borga it became an instant hit among his fans and a firm favourite for many Ghanaians simply because of the hard-hitting and unapologetic lyrics about the life of some Ghanaians living abroad. Mixing humour with some reality, the song seems to advise Ghanaians not to chase after the apparent fortunes of living abroad as portrayed by borgas. Instead, Sarkodie paints an almost gloomy picture of the hardships and struggles people living abroad go through just to make it through the day. While Sarkodie wraps up the video shoot for his song, his counterparts abroad appear not to be completely happy with him and his song. They believe that they are living the good life to a large extent and do not see why Sarkodie should portray them as hustlers. The first reply came from Boogie Down Nima (BDN) Productions duo of Fada and San. The group produced a feel good reply that tried to tell the story of borgas living the good life in the US. Recently Lady Scratch also provided another reply, perhaps telling the female borgas story. However a much more personal reply to Sarkodies Borga has been released by Holland based underground rappers Rebbel Ashes and Ajoejoe. Their reason for the reply is that Sarkodies song did not paint a good picture for Ghanaians in the Diaspora and they find the lyrics to the song insulting. Their reply starts with the line, Two times for your mind yo! Sarkodie Obidempong me twa wo ti; and line by line they try to reply what Sarkodie said in the original song. They also diss Sarkodie by directly calling out his name and saying he is jealous of the life being lived by Borgas all over the world. They referred to him as a villager who has nothing else to eat but rice with oil. They insinuated that Sarkodie doesnt even have a car and that he is lucky that kasahare has become an occupation that he can rely on. The chorus to their take on the popular song goes like: Borga Borga nu na 3y3 wo ya? Obidi me baa this year. Afe na me beduru nti obi nsua me na me kom mu bu, 3firi s3 me sika mu ye duru. Speaking to Kofi Nyarko, a presenter and DJ on ghanatodayonline.com in Holland, he confirmed that Rebbel Ashes and Ajoejoe are really angry with Sarkodies song and this is not just a means for them to claim some fame for themselves. He added that they have threatened to crusade for a boycott of any show with Sarkodie on the bill in Holland, unless the rapper explains his song more or apologizes to Ghanaians living abroad. According to the underground rappers, the Ghanaian youth in Holland, who are fans of Sarkodie seems to be worried about the song. So they need Sarkodie to explain the motive behind that song.
