Holiday Wellness Lecture held in Tema

Dr. Olu Akinshemoyin, President of the Chiropractic Association of Ghana, on Thursday called on Ghanaians to lead healthy lifestyles during this festive season. Excessive eating of fatty and sugary foods increased one's chances of suffering from heart diseases, stroke and diabetes, he said. Dr. Akinshemoyin who is also the Managing Director of the First Choice Chiropratic Centre, made this call during a holiday wellness lecture held in Tema on the theme 'Ghana: Get Fit for Life'. It was aimed at educating the public on some spinal diseases and activities that cause spinal ailments. He said cholesterol in the body narrowed one's arteries and prevented adequate blood from reaching the heart. Dr. Akinshemoyin said due to ignorance, most Ghanaians carried heavy loads on their head, shoulders and back. He said such practices affected the spine, compressed the nerves in the neck and broke down the Central Nervous System. Dr. Akinshemoyin advised Ghanaians to be very careful with their postures (seating, standing, and sleeping), because wrong posture could also affect the spine. He further advised that to ensure a proper healthy life, Ghanaians should exercise their bodies frequently, and should often go for orthopedic and physical examinations.
