Ade Coker Knocks Out Danny Annan To Become NDC G/Accra Reg. Chairman

Delegates of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region have rejected their hardworking Chairman, Danny Annan, and have instead elected football administrator, Kobina Ade Coker, as their new Regional Chairman. In a keenly contested election, Mr. Coker, a former Chairman of Accra Great Olympics and also former Vice-Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), surprisingly polled 101 votes, five more than the incumbent Mr. Annan, who polled 96 votes. Mr. Danny Annan became the NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman in 2005, when the party had only 11 seats in the Greater Accra Region, but due to his industriousness, the party was able to garner enough votes to secure 18 seats in last years general elections. However, this achievement was not enough for him to retain the chairmanship position. After the final declaration of results, Mr. Annan graciously conceded defeat and said, the delegates have spoken. He pledged his commitment to work with the new Executives to ensure victory for the NDC. Mr. Cokers initial announcement to contest the NDC Regional Chairmanship position was quite a shocker to most people, as he was not known to be a politician, much more an NDC activist. But the former Great Olympics Chairman told NDC party faithfuls that he kept quiet about his political affiliation and his NDC identity because the then NPP administration, whiles in power, was very vicious in dealing with its political opponents. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ade Coker described his victory as a victory for the NDC and democracy, and gave the assurance that he will unite the NDC ahead of the elections in 2012. Meanwhile, Mr. Aristo Aryee was elected Regional Secretary, whiles Mr. Jerry Acquaye Thomson was retained as Regional Organizer. Alhaji Kundor was also elected Regional Treasurer.
