Tema celebrates Golden Jubilee anniversary

A Member of the Council of State, on Tuesday asked the indigenes of Tema to use the golden jubilee anniversary celebration of their re-location from Tema Old Town to Tema New Town (Manhean) to facilitate development. Mr Emmanuel Adzei Anang, said people in the metropolis should eschew divisive tendencies and rally behind the traditional authorities to accelerate development. Mr Anang made the call when he launched the anniversary celebration. He urged members of the Tema Traditional Council to co-operate with Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse to ensure his successful reign. Mr Anang said as the industrial hub of the country, Tema continued to play a meaningful role in the business development of the nation. He appealed to the industries to adopt environmentally-friendly measures in their operations in order to minimise pollution. Mr Robert Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the anniversary was a significant milestone. He said the Tema Re-settlement project initiated by the first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah was a very bold and patriotic decision. He lauded the chiefs for supporting the initiative, which enable Dr Nkrumah to roll out his industrialisation agenda. Nii Kraku used the occasion to reiterate the call on parents to instil traditional norms and values in their children in order to sustain the heritage. Activities for the year-long celebration include lectures, visits to the old sites and grand durbar of the chiefs and people to climax it.
