A man driving a foreign plated vehicle loaded with 313 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis has appeared before an Accra High Court.
Osman Sango driving a foreign plated vehicle loaded with 313 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa has appeared before an Accra High Court.o, charged with possession of narcotic drugs pleaded not guilty whilst his accomplice Dara Samba Fuba is said to be on the run.
The court presided over by Mr Charles Ekow Baiden remanded Sango into Police custody to reappear on July 27 for trial to commence.
Prosecuting, Mr Adama Watskin, an Attorney from the Attorney General’s Department said in January this year the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) had intelligence that some vehicles have been transporting drugs to Ivory Coast so its officers were alerted.
On April 15, this year surveillance was mounted on a black BMW car with registration number 5263 HCO1 which was travelling from Elubo to Enchi in the Western Region.
Prosecution said the vehicle which was driven by Sango was stopped and during a search 313 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found in the vehicle.
According to prosecution a Khaki bag pack with Visa card, an Ivorian National Identity Card bearing the name of Fabu and CFA 360,000 was retrieved.
Prosecution said when Sango was questioned by NACOB officials, he said he was delivering the said drugs to Fabu.
When the 313 slabs were sent to the Ghana Standards Authority, it proved positive of cannabis Sativa weighing 237,857 grammes.
Meanwhile efforts to arrest Fabu have proved futile.
