Ghana Would Host And Win Africa Armwrestling Championship

Mr Charles Osei Assibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has said he is confident that Ghana would host and win in this year’s Africa Armwrestling Championship, which would be held in Accra, from 26-29 July.

Mr Osei Assibey in an interview with GNA Sports said he was confident in his team, as the athletes were preparing feverishly for their Africa counterparts.

He indicated that there were still challenges which needs to be attended to, in terms of sponsorship and was awaiting on the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to honour promises made to them, to cushion them for the competition.

“I am very confident that Ghana would host and win the Armwrestling championship, the only challenge so far is sponsorship, though we have received some support from Go On Energy Drink, K-Balm Ointment, Erata Hotel and “I level” Media Services”.

The President, further indicated that, the countries that have confirmed their arrival and submitted their team list for the championship are expected to arrive on the 25th-26th July to start weighing and registration before an annual board meeting, which would be held before the start of the championship.

According to the ace sports Journalist, Egypt, Cameroon and Madagascar have all submitted their team list ahead of the Championship, with Cameroon submitting 13 players, Egypt 10 players, Madagascar four, as Libya, Morocco, Benin, Togo, Mali as well as Seychelles Island and Mauritius are all expected to make the championship.

Mr Assibey noted that there would be an annual congress for Africa Armwrestling immediately after the weighing and registration on 26th July, 2018, with the championship starting the following the day.
