Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer on Tuesday called on the general public to cooperate with the police to effectively combat crime in the society.
He said the Police as a security entity “is not a public enemy in the society and must rather be seen as friends”, saying that, the Ghana Police Service (GPS) among others, existed to protect lives and properties for the people and the communities to be safe and free from crime.
Chief Inspector Oppong made the call at the Wise Educational Complex, a private basic school at Penkwase, a suburb of Sunyani, on Police Administration and security matters, as part of activities towards the school’s 2018 annual career fair slated for Friday, July 20.
He said the Police only assisted in the process of justice since they were the custodians of the law to ensure that the nation’s laws such as road or traffic rules and regulations were obeyed whilst ensuring that the populace was also not subjected to attacks by criminals.
He urged the pupils to be focused and study seriously to attain higher education and not to engage in criminal activities because that could deprive them of their personal freedoms and also jeopardise their future.
Chief Inspector Oppong urged the public to adhere to some basic Police crime prevention advice and tips to reduce the risk of becoming victims to criminals and stressed the need for individuals and families to have the Police emergency numbers at hand to contact the Police whenever necessary for immediate response.
