NDC Elections: "Ill Get At E.T., Afotey Agbo, Abayateyie."--Fmr NDC Chairman Threatens

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship race may have been decided, but Peacefmonline can confirm that there is a strong undercurrent of disgruntlement which could have serious repercussions for the party in 2012, most especially in the Greater Accra Region. Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling NDC, Mr. Danny Annang, is extremely livid, not at the results of the election, but with certain personalities within the NDC in Greater Accra for deliberately smearing his image. He alleges that some NDC MPs teamed up with certain individuals and engaged in a campaign of vilification against him. Hon. E.T. Mensah, MP for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, MP for Kpone-Katamanso, Hon. Alfred Abayateye MP for Sege and some others, he said, lend credence to a negative campaign embarked on by his detractors. The crux of the matter has to do with the circulation of a document alleging that Mr. Danny Annang accessed and misappropriated monies sent to the party through Western Union. The document, bearing the name and signature of one William Jackson Mensah, who claims to be an NDC activist based in Vienna, Austria, alleges that an amount of 120,000 Euros sent in installments was received by Annang on behalf of the party in support of the NDCs campaign during the 2008 elections. Interestingly, the damaging document with attached copies of receipts, was circulated prior to the casting of votes to elect regional executives for the party. But, in a no-holds barred interview on PEACEFM News, Mr. Annang pointed out that while he accepts the outcome of the results as the mandate of the electorate, he is clearly unamused by events leading to his defeat. He promised to get at E.T. Mensah, Afotey Agbo, Hon. Abayateye, to clear his tarnished image. These people are honourable menbut they chose to go ahead and hammer on the allegation that I had embezzled 120,000 euros meant for the partyI have nothing personal against them, but I will do whatever it takes to get to the bottom of this issue and also clear my namebesides the said William Jackson is unknown to me, I have never talked to him before either on phone or in personI think its a fictitious personality because background checks I made indicates that there is no such person in Vienna, much more in Austria, Mr. Annang fumed. The Western Union receipts they (detractors) circulated, indicated that on the identification card (possibly my passport) I used to access the monies, my date of birth is stated as 1966.this is incorrect. I was born in 1948its such a palpable lie, but I guessed they succeeded because they circulated and peddled this falsehood just before voting started in the last five constituencies in the region, he stated. The former NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman also condemned the action of Mrs. Rawlings who he said, openly showed her bias. The former First Lady (Mrs. Rawlings) was clearly seen in an exuberant mood and dancing her heart out after the declaration of the final results which revealed that Ade Coker had wonI was surprised because I thought she was there to observe proceedings as a concerned party member, he said.
