Take Good Care of Party Supporters – Jeff Konadu to New MDCEs

Jeff Konadu Addo, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party has advised newly confirmed Municipal/District Chief Executives to "take good care of party supporters and establish great and cordial harmony with party leadership at the constituency level".

According Mr. Konadu, the party has just about two years to go into the 2020 general elections and the last the party needs is agitation from party foot soldiers over neglect or disunity at the constituency level.

He said the new MDCEs should understand that it is the party that gave birth to the government before they had the chance to become DCEs and should know how they will use their position to benefit party members and supporters.

He was speaking to the Daily Statesman after the confirmation and swearing in of 4 new MDCEs in the Eastern Region.

Four out of the 5 newly appointed MDCEs in the Eastern Region were all confirmed successfully with 3 of them polling 100%.

The four are Mr. Isaac Akomaning Asamoah for Atiwa West, Mr. Isaac Apaw Gyasi for New Juabeng Municipality, Mr. Daniel Kenneth for Okere District and Mr. Alex Incoom for Asene-Manso-Akroso District.

However, the Assembly Members at Fanteakwa South District rejected the president’s nominee Mr. Adjabeng Kwasi Ntori.

Mr. Ntori polled 10 yes votes and 15 No votes.

Mr. Konadu said, though they could not achieve a 100% target, they are convinced with the achievement so far and congratulated the party hierarchy at the constituency level for taking charge and working hard towards the confirmation exercise.

Re-appoint Mr. Ntori

Jeff Konadu used the opportunity to plead with the president to re-appoint Mr. Ntori for the Fanteakwa south District.

He said, having spoken with the Assembly Members, the Assembly Members have shown remorse and he is confident that Mr. Ntori will get a 100% endorsement should he re-appear before them for confirmation.

Anti-Development

The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour has described Assembly Members who reject president’s nominee for MDCE as anti-development.

According Mr. Darfuor, any assembly member who is development conscious will not vote against a DCE who has been appointed by the President.

Speaking at Fanteakwa South District after the rejection of Mr. Ntori, the regional minister said though the first quarter common fund for the Assembly is ready, he is going to halt it until the district gets a Chief Executive.

“Nananom, your first quarter Common Fund is available but it is going to be halted. Your Assembly Members say, for Fanteakwa, you are rich; you have all the money so you do not need a DCE. You cannot get the money for development without a DCE. I will just give my report to the president that Fanteakwa South Assembly Members say, they do not need a DCE, they are okay with their level of development,” Kwakye Darfuor fumed.

Meanwhile Alex Incoom, District Chief Executive for Asene Manso Akroso(A.M.A) has promised to make AMA, the best performing District in Eastern Region.

Incoom said he is “committed to working diligently and tirelessly to maintain the confidence reposed in me and make sure that A.M.A District becomes one of the best performing Districts in Eastern Region and beyond.”

“We are determined to rub shoulders with the most developed assemblies including Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A) of whom we coincidentally share the same abbreviation.” he said.

All 4 confirmed DCEs were sworn in on the same day of their confirmation by the Eastern Regional Minister to commence work.
