Two arrested for attempted robbery

The Asante-Mampong police have arrested 62 year-old Stephen Appau and Isaac Kaprah, 42, for allegedly recruiting people for attempted bank robbery in Kumasi. Police Chief Superintendent Edward Oduro Kwarteng, the Divisional Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that they acted upon a tip off. On Saturday, January 2, they received information that Appau was hiding at a drinking spot in Asante-Mampong trying to engage the services of some young men for a robbery operation. He said some police officers were quickly sent to the place, feigned interest and were each promised GH80,000 by Appau if the operation went on successfully, claiming the Manager of the Bank was the brain behind. Police Chief Superintendent Kwarteng said Appau was immediately apprehended. During interrogation, he mentioned Kaprah as the one who sent him to Asante-Mampong to enlist people for the robbery and he was later picked at his Kwadaso residence in Kumasi. The Police Divisional Commander said the two are being processed for court. He said the police were grateful to the public for their cooperation in the fight to rein the activities of miscreants in the area.
