Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Madam Samira Bawumia has unveiled a special campaign body christened Coalition of People against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Practices (CoPASH), one of the wings of the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects.

With an alarming statistics of an outrageous number of women that have been abused in the past and even in the present standing at 33-37 percent, the campaign is aimed at educating women on the importance of speaking up against domestic violence, prevent as many cases as possible from happening, and also push for a national response against such cases.

“We know people started fighting against gender-based violence long before we came on board, but we are joining with new energy and commitment. In Ghana, we have the laws and the regulations, so it’s up to us to get it working which is why we even have the Domestic Violence Act. What we are going to do as a coalition is to put together a database so victims will stop re-living the experience, we will also provide a national platform to have this issue address, highlighting the negative effect of this practice on not just the health of the victims but also the economy,” Samira Bawumia explains.

Former First Lady, Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, and many other influential figures in Ghana lend their support to this glorious campaign by the Second Lady which was launched at the Kempinski Hotel on August 14, 2018.
