The Tamale District Court on Friday granted a GH¢10,000 bail with three sureties to Baba Alhassan, the prime suspect in the attack of the office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

Two of the sureties, according to the court presided over by Mr Anthony Aduku Aidoo, must be government workers earning not less than GH¢1,000 a month.

In addition, the sureties must submit their travelling passports to the court.

Charges

Alhassan has been charged with unlawful entry, conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.

The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2018.

The accused is being represented by Mr Mohammed Shaibu.

Facts

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Regina Yobo, who presented the facts to the court, said Alhassan was picked up by the police at his hideout in Tamale last Thursday.

He was captured on video speaking on behalf of the Kandahar Boys, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, moments after they locked up the office of the CEO of the TTH, Dr David Zaawumya Akolbila, last Monday.

Background

Last Wednesday, four persons were picked up by the police in connection with the attack of the CEO of  the TTH but were later released from custody after the police said they could not establish any evidence of their involvement.

Following the arrest of the prime suspect, doctors and other health professionals of the TTH called off their strike in solidarity with the CEO last Thursday, as traditional leaders and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) appealed to them to return to work.
