Religious Leaders Called Upon To Help Fight Corruption

Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern Regional Minister, has appealed to religious leaders to use their pulpits and other platforms to their disposal to preach on moral uprightness to aid the fight against corruption in the society.

He said “we can only make success in the fight against corruption if we are morally upright and it is only religious leaders who can effectively speak on morality”.

He urged preachers to refocus their messages and teachings on the need for good morals and the need to stay away from corruption.

He made the appeal during the 35th Annual National Ijtema’a, of the Ahmadiya Muslim Elders Organization of Ghana held in Tamale at the weekend.

The three-day programme was held under the theme: “Religious and moral upbringing, a panacea for fighting corruption in the society”.

The programme was organized under the auspices of the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission in Ghana, which also attracted the participation of some Christian faiths in the Northern Region who gave solidarity messages centred on peace and unity.

Mr Saeed said the country cannot achieve meaningful results if things are done by its citizens without having the fear of God in them.

He said the government would continue to embark on programmes and projects that will benefit the all in the society.

He mentioned the introduction of the free SHS system, ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’, ‘One district, one factory’ among other social intervention projects by the NPP government to alleviate the plight of all Ghanaians.

He said the SHS Double track and the semester system was a topical issue at the moment and described it as a measure to ensure that no child was left out of school while the government seeks ways of solving the infrastructure deficit in the Senior High schools.

The Ameer in charge of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission, Alhaji Maulvi Mohammed Been Salih in a speech read on his behalf, called for peace and unity during and after the conference to strengthen the bond between members.

He stressed the need for members to strictly prescribe to Islamic principles of good neighborliness by avoiding petty quarrels so as to build a prosperous country.
