NDC Leadership To Deliberate On Bagbin’s “Reckless” And “Distasteful” Comments About Mahama

The National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has described the comment made by the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin who is also aspiring to lead the NDC in 2020 elections as Flagbearer as ‘reckless’ and ‘distasteful’.

According to Kofi Adams, the NDC Nadoli/Kaleo MP’s comment is against the party’s campaign process and campaign message regulations for all the levels the party’s elections which should not have come from someone seeking to occupy the highest position as the party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2020 elections.

Mr Bagbin has compared former President John Mahama to a "reckless driver" who will run the party into a ditch.

He said although he warned Mr Mahama and his men about the danger ahead in the 2016 elections, he was ignored, but his fears came to pass when the party lost miserably in the 2016 general elections.

The Nadoli/Kaleo MP claims he wants to prevent an even miserable defeat in 2020, a reason he is pushing for the party's leadership to be changed.

Mr Bagbin also accused cronies close to Mr Mahama of neglecting the grassroot and living lavishly by building mansions and driving in V8.

Reacting to Bagbin’s comment on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Kofi Adams said it would not have been bad if the long serving NDC Member of Parliament had mentioned that former President Mahama failed to do certain things right.

He added that “if Mahama will contest again, he will have the opportunity to rebut and state what he has done for the party; that is how it should be by stating what you can do as your policy”.

“But if you stand somewhere to say that Mahama is a reckless person, you should state why the person is reckless but you didn’t; so you allow people to fill in anything and after you say that Mahama is reckless and he has surrounded himself with immature and inexperienced people who are enriching themselves at the expense of the grassroots”, he added.

In the view of Kofi Adams, “to make such a reckless open statement which is not a vision or policy is rather an attack on the party and that is what we are pleading with all the aspirants to be decorous in their campaigns. What he said is distasteful and that is not the way to go”.

Kofi Adams hinted that the leadership of the party [NDC] will react appropriately as they are yet to decide today on the reported comments made by the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
