Some aggrieved butchers at Sawla in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Northern Region have expressed worry over the Assembly's failure to construct an abattoir for them.
The butchers during the Muslims Eid-al-Adha celebration which is usually characterized by animal sacrifice said, there is a lot of dirt at the old slaughterhouse which is also in the middle of the town, thereby inconveniencing residents with the stench that emanates from the place.
According to them, they pay about Gh¢7.00 tax to the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly every day per cow but the assembly has refused to solve their problems even though they have written a lot of proposals to the assembly.
The butchers argued that the only slaughterhouse in Sawla is a small uncompleted building that has no doors, windows and even dumping site.
This they say brings pigs and dogs into the premises to lick the floor which is not healthy for their operations.
Tibila Emmanuel who is the Sawla district veterinary assistant officer said, he has written proposals about the challenges confronting butchers in the area but has since not received any reply.
Butchers now run into the slaughterhouse with fire for preparing the animal only when it is raining.
Mr Tibila, added, he is disappointed at the district assembly after authorities failed to respond to their proposals and said the butchers need to be relocated.
The DCE who was earlier contacted said he was busy fixing Streets lights in the community, whose phones were later off.
