The Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, has described as “malicious”, a publication by The Chronicle newspaper accusing him of abusing his office to grab lands in Tema.
In response to the allegations levelled against him by the paper, Mr Acheampong said the publication was a ploy by his detractors to derail his focus in dealing with the land guard menace, adding that his fight against the problem is being misconstrued by some people.
“I do not own a land in Tema, neither do I know any community called Gbetsele in Tema, let alone own land there. I do not have a related party interest in any land in Tema or Gbestele. Our efforts to deal with land guards should not be misconstrued,” he said.
Mr Acheampong said it was “wickedness” on the part of The Chronicle newspaper to drag his name and office into needless pitches to make sales.
According to him, this is the second attempt by The Chronicle to sully his office and “humble self” with malicious allegations just to boost sales of the paper.
He cautioned journalists not to allow themselves to be used as instruments to destroy people’s hard-earned reputation.
“No journalists can intimidate this quest, journalists should not allow themselves to be used,” he said.
