Defeated Regional Chairman Fingers Ofosu Ampofo And Victor Smith For Electoral Loss

Defeated Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Tawiah Boateng, has accused the party's Director of Elections and Aspiring National Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and former Ghana's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr. Victor Smith of masterminding his electoral defeat last Saturday.

He indicted the duo for ganging up against him during the elections and even asking some other aspirants to step down in favour of their preferred candidate.

Speaking on Okay FM's "Ade Akye Abia" programme, he explained that one of the candidates was offered a whooping GH130,000 to step down.

"Prior to the election, the former Eastern Regional Chairman and Executives of the party held series of clandestine meetings with the agenda to kick me out of office....Ofosu Ampofo and Mavis Ama Frimpong were the brains behind those moves," he stated.

According to him, the machinations of the two personalities got murkier when some ex officio delegates who hitherto had no voting rights, were allowed to vote during the elections whilst some delegates also came to the voting centre with flashlights; an act that clearly depicts they had prior knowledge there will be lights out during the counting to enable the perpetrators carry out their plan.

"You see when you go into an election this way, you end causing division among the party folks but for me it is a wake up call...I'm not disturbed, i will support the current executives for victory 2020," he stated.

Strong Denial

But the NDCs Director of Elections has strongly refuted the allegations.

Speaking on the same platform, he pointed out that to him, it was a free and fair contest and opined that Mr Tawiah Boateng's utterances is likely to cause some disaffection.

"This is the time we need to be more united than ever for election 2020," he added.

Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng was defeated in his attempt to seek another term as the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC.

He trailed behind Mr John Owusu Amankrah popularly known as Jowak at the Regional elections of the party at the weekend.

Jowak polled 373 as against Tawiah Boateng's 281 votes.

Three people contended for the Chairmanship position and the third person, Mr Basil Ahiable polled 249 votes.

The newly elected regional executives were sworn into office by Mr Ofosu Ampofo.
