National Fire Service Cautions Public Against Inferior Cables

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Thursday added its voice to the concerns of the Ghana Standard Authority’s observations about inferior cables in the Ghanaian market.

A statement signed by Mr Ellis Robinson Okoe, the Head of Public Relations at the Service and copied to the Ghana News Agency said: “Management wishes to advice the public to avoid buying such inferior electrical cable for their projects”.

It said the GNFS had noted that a lot of the fire outbreaks occurring in homes, industries and offices had been the result of these inferior cables used in wiring of buildings.

The statement said “Fire safety is a shared responsibility and therefore, the public should as a matter of urgency desist from patronising such cables from the market because they have the potential of causing fires”.

It said it was advisable to purchase products that had been approved by the Ghana Standards Authority or seek advice from qualified professionals to avoid any incident of fire.

The statement said, the Fire Service was committed to providing a sustained and continuous education on issues that compromised the safety of the public to enhance a fire free and safe environment.

The GNFS urged the public to also pay attention to its numerous fire safety educational programmes on the various media and in communities to ensure that lives and property were protected.
