Farmer jailed six months for stealing from carpentry shop

Kwesi Owusu, a farmer, who broke into a carpentry shop and made away with items estimated at several hundreds of Ghana Cedis, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment in hard labour by the Akim Oda Magistrate Court. The stolen items included a pressure spraying machine, a centre table, nails, drawer keys and a handle. Owusu, 21, who pleaded not guilty to stealing, has been described as a notorious thief linked to some previous cases involving stealing in the community. Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that the complainant, Mr Bismark Ahenkorah is a carpenter, while Owusu is a farmer, and that both of them lived at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District. According to Chief Inspector Appiakorang sometime in last year, the carpenter detected that his shop was forcibly opened and some items taken away. The complainant's own investigations conducted, led him to the house of the convict where some of the stolen items were found. She said Mr Ahenkorah reported the matter to the Akim Swedru Police and during its investigations, Owusu fled, until on January 1, this year, when he was arrested while committing a similar offence and was identified by the complainant.
