Samuel Ayeh-Paye, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, the Ministry of Works and Housing has asked Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu to stop lamenting about the challenges confronting him and his work.

According to Hon. Ayeh-Paye, Mr. Amidu has been vested with power to help him retrieve information to assist his work.

Martin Amidu has accused some government officials of not cooperating with his outfit in the fight against corruption.

He noted that there are major challenges hampering his work aside his office being under-resourced.

To him, he is practically ineffective to deliver on his mandate if the appointees of President Akufo-Addo do not collaborate with him and the friction between his outfit and heads of government institutions is not eliminated.

“You ask for information you can’t get it, you ask for docket, the docket cannot be produced. You ask a minister for a record, the record cannot be produced. How do you fight corruption when those appointed by the president who has a vision are not coordinating with the office of the special prosecutor to achieve his mandate? That is the challenge we have to face".

“The success in the fight against corruption will depend on the extent to which the president’s vision is supported by his operatives. The personality and reputation of the Special Prosecutor cannot be a solution to a problem which has festered since independence”, he stressed.

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Hon. Ayeh-Paye however disagreed with the Special Prosecutor, stating that he has all the powers at his disposal to lawfully and forcibly order for him to be furnished with the necessary documentation and resources to equip him clamp down on corruption.

“He has the power to lawfully order someone to give him the necessary information or whatever he needs to assist his work”, he said.
