NGO trains voluntary teachers

The Country Director of Childreach International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mr. Frederick Safo has advised teachers to upgrade themselves in order to improve the quality of the country's human resource. Mr. Frederick Safo gave the advice while addressing 70 volunteer teachers at the weekend who had completed a five-day capacity building workshop at Pong-Tamale in the Savelugu/Nanton District of the Northern Region. The volunteer teachers were recruited by Childreach International to teach in 33 rural communities in the district. Mr. Safo said the programme had improved the pupil-teacher ratio in the area and asked government to support such initiatives to get more teachers in the rural areas. He said next year, the teachers would be assisted by the NGO to take advantage of the untrained teacher programme of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to become professional teachers. Mr. Kyei Baffour, a Resource Person said the beneficiaries were taken through several teaching methodologies and topics that had prepared them adequately for the classroom. The Course Prefect Master Adam Dawuni on behalf of his colleagues commended the NGO for the initiative.
