Kwesi Nyantakyi's FIFA Ban Too "Harsh"...He Shouldn't Pay The Fine - Kweku Baako

Seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako jnr. has empathized with the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi after being banned for life from all football-related activities both national and international.

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' programme Wednesday morning, Kweku Baako stated that “nobody should rejoice or celebrate the predicament of another human being especially if their your friend.”

According to him, the decision by FIFA is "too harsh", claiming the international football governing body went too far to sanction Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi.

" . . That appears to me to be a bit too harsh," he stated.

FIFA’s ban comes as a result of undercover investigations into the rot at the Ghana Football Association which caught Kwesi Nyantakyi in the web of corruption and total disregard for the rules of the football community.

Though he has resigned as President of the Association, he was later suspended by FIFA before this decision to ban him for life.

To him, Kwesi Nyantakyi shouldn’t pay the imposed fine by FIFA saying they cannot ban him for life and still expect him to pay such a huge amount.

"You've banned him for life then after you ask him to pay 500,000 Swiss Francs, if I were him I wouldn't pay. . . If you had banned me for 10 years and in default banning for life then it makes sense," he said seeking to know more about the sanctions of FIFA in such related matters.

FIFA, on Tuesday, October 31, 2018, issued a statement banning the former GFA President for life with immediate effect and also fined 500,000 Swiss Francs which amounts to about 2.4 million Ghana cedis.
