11 Air Conditioners...Are You Running A Mortuary Service In Your House! - Maritime Boss Quizzed

The Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Kwame Owusu has confirmed media reports that his official residence has 11 air conditioners, after its renovation cost some GHc 1 million.

According to Mr Owusu, the number of air conditioners fixed in the renovated colonial style residence was reasonable because the number of rooms had increased.

“The places that I listed to you, for each one of them to have air conditioner will be 13, so the 11 is not even enough and by the way, we don’t put them on all together,” he said at a press conference he had recently with the media.

Following the renovation, the former wooden residence now has “four bedrooms on the main structure, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a family room, a library and a basement. That is the main structure.”

“We also have a guest house which should befit a Director General, for that matter where you can have a guest of your counterpart where they can stay. That one is one bedroom, a dining room, living room and a porch that has also been erected,” he added.

Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ newspaper discussion segment, Alhaji Halidu Haruna a Communication Team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) frowned on comments made by the Maritime Authority Director General, indicating it was a waste of hard earned state resources.

He said, a lot of projects embarked on must be reassessed before started, since there are more pressing projects that need instance attention, yet we always concentrate on the less important projects due to someone’s comfort and interest.

“ . . Why should you even come out to justify your case in such words which will even make issues worse, when we need better explanations . . . 11 air conditions for four bedrooms, why are you going to run mortuary services in the building?” he angrily responded to comments made by the Maritime Director to buttress his point.
