Gunshots were fired by the Northern Regional Police Command to disperse some youth who stormed the police station in an attempt to forcibly free a suspect.
Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicates that the behaviour of the youth at the police station forced the police to fire gunshots.
Reports have it that the issue is about land litigation at Vittin, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yusuf Mohammed Tanko told DAILY GUIDE that they received a complaint from a group that they had a land issue with some residents in the Vittin area and the particular land had some bags of cement on the land but 100 bags of the said cement and blocks were destroyed by unknown persons.
According to the Police PRO, the suspect was identified and arrested by the police and sent to the police station.
He indicated that some youth came to the police station to ask for the release of the suspect but the police told them there were laid-down processes.
But that did not go down well with the youth and they decided to forcibly release the suspect, compelling the police to fire gunshots.
Four of the youth were arrested whiles a number of them managed to escape police arrest. DSP Yusuf Tanko said the issue was under investigation.
