The newly trained teachers have denied embarking on a demonstration to express their displeasure against undertaking national service.
They were rather praying the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post them at their service stations to be assured of their employment after the service.
These were contained in a release issued to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Ms Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of Public Relation Unit of the GES.
Their intention were known when management of the GES met their leadership on the supposed demonstration by a section of the newly trained teachers from Colleges of Education, whose arguments was that they were ready to undertake national service as prescribed by law for all tertiary institutions, but would prefer the GES to post them instead of being placed by the National Service Secretariat (NSS).
The GES management told them that, posting of national service personnel was the responsibility of the NSS as mandated by law, the release stated.
It said, in addition to that, the employment into the GES after the service would be based on good conduct during the period, personnel must also get NSS certificate, a professional teacher’s license and declaration of intent and their availability for full time employment.
“Management further made it clear that the GES in addition would be recruiting on the basis of financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance to assure itself that those recruited would be paid,” it continued.
“Again it is important to state that an earlier meeting on October 30, 2018, with the Ministry of Education at which GES participated, the Ministry granted these concessions to the newly trained teachers: that the period of national service should count as their probation period and that the period should also be used as their induction period as part of the teacher licensing regime”.
It noted that, the GES’ position had not changed from those clear guidelines and therefore there was no cause for alarm.
