Stop Campaigning Or Face Sanctions ―NPP Warns Parliamentary Aspirants

All potential Member of Parliament (MP) aspirants of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been asked with immediate effect, to put to a halt to every form of campaign they may have embarked on, prior to the party’s 2019 parliamentary primaries.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Mr. John Boadu, the party will not hesitate to “disqualify any parliamentary aspirant who fails to abide by the rules of engagement.”

This directive follows complaints that some aspirants were campaigning to delegates ahead of the opening of nominations.

These actions, according to the leadership of the party, “do not only flout the party’s internal regulations but also undermine the very structures of the party, particularly at the constituency and regional levels.”

The party says parliamentary aspirants can only canvass for votes at a time the party approves, but until then, all campaigns in that regard should cease.

“The NPP is a disciplined party and as such, everything is expected to be done in accordance with rules and regulations,” the statement read.

The General secretary further pointed out that, the Album used to elect the current Constituency Executives at the 2018 Constituency Annual Delegates Conference shall be the same Album to be used in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

“However, if the need arises for a review of the Constituency Albums, that decision shall be taken by the national party and communicated accordingly,” he said.

“In the light of this, it would be a futile exercise for anybody, particularly constituency executives, prospective parliamentary aspirants, sitting members of parliament and other stakeholders to engage in tampering with the current Constituency Albums for purposes of effecting changes to suit their interest.

“Persons who may continue with such unlawful act, risk being sanctioned in accordance with the party’s disciplinary procedures”, the party warned.
