Movie Premiere Is A Waste Of Money Socrate

Controversial movie producer and C.E.O of Movie Africa Production, Mr. Socrate Safo has begged to differ from a trend which is gradually becoming a norm in Ghana, as far as movie release is concerned. Socrate posits premiering a movie is waste of money. He made this comment in an interview with peacefmonline.com, when asked why he has never premiered any of his movies before. I have never premiered my movies and why will I do that? I think that premiering of movies, especially in Ghana, is a waste of time, energy and money. Lets say you want to premiere a movie at the National Theater, the venue alone cost almost GH5,000. You have to print tickets, backdrops, posters and flexible banners, you have to rent sound and projector, hire MC(s), you have to make sure you invite all your cast and crew, publicize the premiere among other things. You need big money to do all these things perfectly, Socrate said. When he was prompted that the likes of Shirley Frimpong Manso of Sparrow Production and Abdul Sallam Mumuni of Venus Films Production have successfully premiered movies like Life and Living it, The Prince Bride, Scorned, Heart of Men, Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale among others in the past and made money, Socrate said Who told you they make money? More than 80% of the people who fill the venue come with free tickets. Why will I waste all this money to organize a premier and give free ticket to fill the venue? It doesnt make sense. I will rather use this money to advertise the movie on radio and TV, he argued. He added that when you go to Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood and other countries, movies are premiered but strictly by invitation.
