It has been revealed to the media through the maiden edition of bi-weekly media briefing program introduced by the Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah that United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled new laws on carrying personal medications into the country.

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has announced to Ghanaians that the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled a law that requires all tourists and residents entering the UAE with personal medication to seek approval from the Ministry of Health and Prevention before their arrival in that country.

According to him, the law was announced in October this year by health authorities at the UAE and states that approval can only be granted after a person has met certain guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

United Arab Emirates require persons interested in visiting Dubai to complete an electronic form which can be downloaded from the website www.mohap.gov.ae.

The guideline is for the person to ensure that over the counter and prescription medicine do not exceed a period of three (3) months and one (1) month respectively; thus, applicant must submit a prescription issued by a recognized physician.

The new law of UAE is that someone can only be permitted to enter Dubai after the person has submitted their medical reports for approval by health facility.

Again, copies of Emirates ID of residents and passports of visitors must be submitted first; thus, UAE will have to confirm the duration of stay of visitors before one will permitted to travel to Dubai.

He however reminded that applications would be reviewed and approval given within one (1) working day (Sunday to Thursday) if the requirements including the documentations are met.

He stressed that persons who flout the new guidelines would not face sanctions, but their medications would be seized at the port of entry.
