TEMA LUBE Oil Company Limited (TLOC) – the premier lubricant blending company – has increased its blending capacity with the construction of two large tanks on the premises of the company in Tema.
The tanks will have the capacity to store up to over 2,840 cubic metres (284 million litres) of base oil at a time, making it one of the biggest tanks in the Tema Metropolis and the country at large.
The tanks were constructed by Messers Memot Engineering Company Limited and financed through Internally Generated Fund (IGF).
The main raw materials used to blend lubricants are imported base oils, and proprietary additives provided by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) which constitute shareholders of the company alongside the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). The company also manufactures steel drums for the packaging of the lubricants, and other uses.
Lubricants produced by the company include automotive oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils, industrial oils and marine oils.
Speaking at the launch of the newly constructed tank farm, the Board Chairman of the company, Ing. Kow Abaka Quansah, explained that the tanks would ensure regular availability of base oil to facilitate continuous operations.
The board chairman outlined the company’s plans to realign the tanks as part of the company’s plant expansion project in order to be able to store higher grades of base oil to facilitate production of higher grades of lubricants to improve the market share of the company.
He commended the managing director, members of the project implementation committee of the company who ensured a speedy and safe execution of the erection of the tanks.
An enhanced supply of lubricants to large commercial users like mining, bauxite and manganese companies would impact positively on the economy.
