THE MEMBER of Parliament (MP) for Tema East Constituency, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover, has strongly cautioned persons, who will be implicated in the hoarding of premix fuel meant for fishermen in Tema, to halt their activities or face his wrath.

According to the MP, who is also the Deputy Minister for Transport, it has come to his notice that some people at the canoe landing beaches are hoarding premix fuel meant for fishermen, and apparently selling the fuel at an exorbitant price at the expense of the “poor” fishermen.

He warned that the issue would call for the arrest of all those involved in the illicit act, adding that he would further ensure they are dragged to court in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

In view of this worrying development, he disclosed that he put in place a three-member committee to monitor the situation. However, when they went, the regional chairman of the premix monitoring team tried to stop them from carrying out their duties. He said eventually the Fisheries Ministry apparently waded into the issue.

Mr. Titus-Glover further intimated that he would not sit down for his name, that of the president and the fisheries minister to be maligned.

“I campaign for myself and that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, and therefore if things are not going the way it should, it is my duty as a minister and MP to bring some sanity,” he stressed.

The MP made this known at a town hall meeting organized in Tema. He revealed that 14 trucks of premix fuel are being brought to the canoe landing beaches.

“If there are no obstacles, the 14 trucks of premix fuel should be able to satisfy everybody”, he stated.

Touching on the upcoming Farmers’ Day celebration in December, Mr. Titus Glover stressed that in the absence of farming as a result of non-availability of lands in the metropolis, fishing has become a pivotal part of the livelihood of the people.

In order to show appreciation for the role being played by fishermen within the municipality, the MP has suggested to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) that as part of this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, the assembly should reward hard-working fishermen and women in the area.

“This will serve as a source of motivation for them to continue their good work”, he pointed out.
