Government Announces 335M Cedis For Ghana Highway Authority

The Minister for Planning, Prof. Gyan Baffuor has announced that government has earmarked an amount of 335 million Ghana cedis for the Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Urban and Feeder Roads.

The amount which covers a three-year period is targeted at improving on the country’s poor road infrastructure.

Professor Gyan Baffuor made this disclosure on behalf of President Akufo-Addo at the 2018 GHANA DRIVER AND ROAD SAFETY AWARDS at the State House.

The event was organized by Shenkani Ghana Limited with support from the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC)

He further disclosed that an additional amount of 6.5 million Ghana cedis from the Road Fund has been set aside for the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to scale up public education and sensitization programmes on road safety.

The President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo praised the efforts of the organizers and encouraged other organisations to partner the National Road Safety Commission to work towards safer roads in Ghana.

The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah also lauded efforts of the organisers and pledged his Ministry’s support for 2019 and future editions of the programme.

Madam Freda Frimpong, Director of Partnerships at the Ghana Driver & Road Safety Awards Foundation explained that the mission of the Ghana Driver & Road Safety Awards (GDRSA) is to raise Champions of road safety and driving excellence at lorry stations and companies across the country.

She invited other corporate organisations to emulate the example of GHACEM and GOIL and support the 2019 edition of the GDRSA to make it bigger and more impactful. Md. Frimpong used the occasion to launch a “GHANA BEYOND ROAD ACCIDENTS” agenda and invited all Ghanaians to join in it.

Professor Gyan Baffuor who is also the Member of Parliament for Wenchi, presented ten brand new Toyota Hilux Pick Ups to the National Road safety Commission to aid their campaign against road accidents.

The Overall Best Driver, Mr. Moses Osei of Ayalolo Bus Service, received a brand new Suzuki Alto 800 from GOIL and GHACEM.

The colorful event was attended by several driver Unions and Road Safety partners, Officers of the Ghana Police Service and the National Fire Service, a cross-section of Ghanaians, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps.
