The Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Akayare Kamparah, has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to use their five percent quota from the Common Fund meant for security to provide accommodation for the police. He said the five per cent allocation might seem meagre but it could be used �to start something�. Mr Kamparah said if the assemblies took the initiative, the Police Administration and all those who knew the importance of the police in maintaining law and order could offer some support. The Regional Commander made the suggestion at Apam at a mini durbar of the police in Gomoa West during which a certificate of honour and a citation was presented to Detective Sergeant Hope Kwasi Dogah. The Police Administration honoured him for a good performance and devotion to duty during his services in Greater Accra, Brong- Ahafo and the Central regions. Part of the citation reads �that you exhibited a high sense of professionalism as regards your duties as an investigator, you were found to have investigated criminal cases creditably and also maintained law and order which led to the reduction in crime in places you have worked.� Mr Kamparah, who represented the Inspector General of Police at the function, said the Police Service was facing accommodation problems throughout the country. He commended the Gomoa West District Assembly for making available GH�48,000 for the renovation of the Police Barracks at Apam and also for building toilet facilities and a kitchen for the Apam Police Station. The Regional Commander expressed the IGP�s concern about the perceived corruption in the Police Service and urged every personnel of the Service to vow to erase that perception which had given the Service bad image. On behalf of the IGP, he expressed gratitude to the government for deciding to complete 38 police projects which had been abandoned all over the country. Deputy Superintendent of Police Godfred Obeng Asare, Apam District Commander, commended Detective Sergeant Dogah for bringing honour to the police in Apam and urged others to work harder than before to bring down crime in the District. Nana Edu Effrim X, Chief of Apam, pledged to release land for any project meant for the police at Apam. Detective Sergeant Dogah said he was grateful to the Police Administration for the honour done him. �Little did I know that my work was being monitored by the Police Administration,� he said.
