Official appeals to chiefs to make land available for Fulanis

An Agricultural Extension Officer has suggested to traditional authorities to reserve land for Fulani herdsmen to settle on with their animals to avoid clashes with local farmers. Mr Hillary Anku, an Agriculture Extension Officer in charge of Kwamikrom, said this when addressing a farmers meeting on governments Youth in agriculture Programme at Kwamikrom in the Volta Region. Mr Anku said it was the responsibility of the traditional landowners who accommodate the herdsmen to first of all register them at the District Assemblies, settle them and request them to keep their animals in descent ranches. He said the practice whereby herdsmen moved their cattle about looking for greener pastures, destroy food crops and run away must end.
