Massive monocracy has characterised the ongoing national recruitment exercise of the Ghana National Fire Service (NGFS), Today can confirm.
Today gathered that some officials of the GNFS were openly demanding GH¢ 6,000.00 from each applicant before the applicant can be given an appointment letter to join the service.
The worrying situation, Today understands, has heightened confusion between the GNFS and applicants.
Yesterday scores of frustrated applicants who were at the training grounds of GNFS in Accra raised eyebrows about the level of ‘moneycracy’ that has rocked the recent recruitment process of GNFS, describing it as reprehensible.
According to the applicants, those of them who had written the examinations and awaiting for their appointment letters had been side-lined because they do not have GH¢6,000.00 fee being demanded by GNFS.
They accused the GNFS officials of handling the recruitment process of bribery and nepotism and called on the government to set up a committee of enquiry to investigate the matter.
They told Today that some recruits were handpicked by powerful politicians and delivered to the officials of GNFS without the mandatory scrutiny of conscripts.
They further claimed that people who did not meet the criteria for qualification were given the nod when they were frustrated for no apparent reasons.
The recruitment exercise was divided into two phases – phase one was the online application and phase two was the body screening and documentation.
The second phase of the recruitment exercise was in two stages – the body screening, and the documentation process.
