Ayorkor Botchwey Is "Never Corrupt" – Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency

Leadership of the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency says their Member of Parliament [MP] who double as Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is not "arrogant" and "corrupt" as purported.

According to the constituency Secretary, Bashiru Mohammed, the near-brawl incident between their MP and two NDC MPs in the foyer of Parliament on Monday, December, 17, 2018 was “unfortunate”.

“I will plead to the public to forgive our MP, that is not her behavior, she has never been violent as people are saying. One painful thing in life is when you are being accused of something you don’t know nothing about,” he said on NEAT FM’s political talk show ‘Torchlight’.

“You can say anything about Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey but not corruption. She is never corrupt. I have worked close to her for 8 good years,” Bashiru Mohammed told host Mac Jerry Osei Agyemang.

The confrontation which went viral on various social media platforms between the Foreign Affairs Minister and two NDC MPs stemmed from earlier presentation on the floor of parliament where the Minority, led by the Ranking Member for the Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the ministry was engaged in cost inflation, after it has made plans to purchase a 100 year old 6 bedroom apartment at a cost of $12 million in Oslo, Norway.

His claims were however backed with documents which he turned in as evidence, but the Speaker ruled that the evidence is not admissible because the documents are not verifiable.

Meanwhile, the Ministry in a statement has denied ever signing any agreement in relation to the said property urging the minority to be circumspect with issues of national interest.

However, Bashiru Mohammed noted that the posture of “Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and his colleague, Sam George were wrong. They are lairs. They are Members of Parliament so they should have their facts right before saying things they don’t know.”
