Thief Taught Bitter Lesson

A MAN believed to be in his late 20s who perhaps has ignored counsel from his family members and friends to quit stealing will do so now after being taught a bitter lesson by a mob after enduring a thrashing for stealing. The suspected thief, whose name was not readily known, was in bad physical condition when DAILY GUIDES sharp lenses caught him in the scorching sun at the Central Police Station in Kumasi recently. The suspect had been severely beaten up by a mob around the Mamponteng area for trying to escape arrest after stealing a generator, a source told DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity. The suspect was said to have hired a taxi from the Asante Mampong area, heading towards Kumasi with the stolen generator in the early hours of that fateful day. But upon reaching the police barrier around Mamponteng, the suspect was gripped with fear of being arrested, so without provocation he jumped from the taxi and took to his heels, leaving the generator with the unsuspecting driver. An alarm was raised by onlookers and neighbours of the serene community who gave him a wild chase until they caught up and dealt with him brusquely. By the time the police patrol team rescued the man from the angry mob his right eye was swollen badly and had completely closed with blood oozing from his mouth and nostrils. The police team were said to have faced stiff resistance from the mob before they managed to save the life of the hapless suspected thief who was panting for breath on the ground while being kicked and butted from all directions by about twenty people.
