Bono East Votes 99.5 Per Cent In Support Of New Region
The Chiefs and people of the Bono East enclave of the Brong Ahafo Region have voted overwhelmingly to endorse the proposal for the creation of a new region.
At the end of the collation of the entire results from the 11 districts and municipalities forming the proposed region, 450,812 representing 85.82 per cent of the 525,275 registered voters turned out for the exercise, reports Graphic Online's Emmanuel Adu-Gyamerah.
In all 448,545 people representing 99.5 per cent of the total votes cast voted YES while 1,384 people, representing 0.3 per cent voted NO.
A total of 883 votes representing 0.2 per cent were rejected.
The residents waited throughout the night for the outcome of the referendum.
The Electoral Commission's Returning Officer, Mr James Yeboah Arthur declared the results at about 6.05 am Friday.
It was therefore not surprising that the election results were declared in the presence of only few media personnel and some campaigners for the creation of the region.
