The men’s football team of the University for Development Studies (UDS), has won this year’s Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Mini Games, which ended in Cape Coast on Thursday, January 10.
The UDS’ team, which conquered West Africa last year, beat their counterparts from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) 2-0, at the finals played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, to win the enviable title.
David Abanga, the talisman of the triumphant UDS Team, bagged the Golden Boot Award, while Abdul-Majeed Abdul-Mauz (also of UDS Team), was adjudged Male Best Player of the tournament.
Earlier in the competition, the UDS’ female football team, also outclassed their opponents to emerge the overall Best Female Football team of the tournament, with Mukarama Abdulai, the Black Maidens’ top striker and winner of the golden boot at the recently held FIFA U-17 female world cup competition in Uruguay, picking the female best player of the tournament.
Team UDS, was also stunning in athletics competition, dominating the track events, especially in the female category where they won gold in all the events and smashed two previous records.
Overall, Team UDS placed second with 13 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals, while University of Cape Coast, which hosted the games, came first on the medals table annexing 20 gold, 11 silver and six bronze, and University of Ghana came third annexing four gold, nine silver and 10 bronze medals.
All the public universities in the country, with the exception of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), competed in this year’s event, which was the eighth edition.
