The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tema, Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, has forecasted that the 49 per centrating that President Akufo-Addo scored in the recent poll on his approval rating by the University of Ghana will improve.

He predicted that it will move above the 53 percent votes he used to win the 2016 election by the end of 2019.

“In the first two years of the administration of the President, we have concentrated attention on correcting the disorder that his predecessor left for him, and some of the corrections have not been popular.

“Take the reforms in the banking sector for instance, many people have temporarily lost their jobs but you know what our elders say; it takes bitter medicine to cure illness. Now that we have all swallowed the bitter medicine to cure the sickness that Mahama left this country in, the way is clear for President Akufo-Addo to roll out his programmes.

“I can assure you that by the end of this year, the University of Ghana will report that the President’s approval rating is above 53 per cent.”

Mr Annang-La made the forecast on the sidelines of a programme,where his alma-mater, Manhean Jumior High School celebrated him in Tema New Town.

Alumni of his former School, Manhean Junior High School, formerly Manhean Junior Secondary School (MAJUSEC), organised the programme where he was given a citation for making the school proud through his elevation in politics.

The citation also acknowledged his sense of industry which led to a phenomenal transformation of the infrastructural endowment of Tema under his leadership.

According to the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, the opposition NDC’s observation that President Akufo-Addo was losing his voter appeal because the little over 49 per cent of the votes he got in that poll represented a reduction in the 53 per cent that he got in the 2016 election was a jaundiced argument.

“Well in the 2016 election, the NDC’s John Mahama also had some 44 per cent of the votes, but in the UG poll has dropped to 33.3 per cent, and so rather than the NDC making those claims, I think it would be more proper for them to be mourning because their man is also losing votes even in opposition.”

He said that the two previous years were the most turbulent for the NPP government, “and so if even in these most turbulent years, Mahama could not become popular enough to lead polls, then it is clear that President Akufo-Addo will easily win the 2020 election” the MCE said.

The Tema MCE’s claims were refuted by the NDC’s firebrand executive member for Tema East, Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake.

“When the MCE jumps into conclusion that President Akufo-Addo will win 2020 because Mahama is not popular, then he really is not analysing well. First and foremost, there is no way the NDC is electing Mahama to lead us again in 2020. We are electing Mr Alban Bagbin,” Moshake said.

According to him, if Mr Bagbin were to be paired against President Akufo-Addo in any poll, the results would have been different.

“Mr Bagbin would have beaten President Akufo-Addo by a wide margin. President Akufo-Addo did so well because he was pegged against Mr Mahama.,” Moshake said.

Mr Adjei who is also an alumnus of MAJUSEC said that, rather than claiming that President Akufo-Addo would be re-elected by a 53 per cent margin in 2020, the NPP government would do itself a lot of good if it were to concentrate on improving the lives of the people and pray that the NDC did not elect Bagbin as its candidate for 2020.

He however at the Tema New Town campus of MAJUSEC called on society to honour the MCE and joined his colleagues to give him a standing ovation.

The MAJUSEC old boys and girls awarded the MCE with a citation for hoisting high the image of MAJUSEC and also developing Tema.
